Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA -- Randolph College junior Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) scored with just under four minutes left in regulation and 7:07 into overtime as the WildCats rallied to earn a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Roanoke College Saturday evening.
Sindle posted his eighth and ninth goals on the season, which moved him into third in the ODAC. Sindle's second goal came on a great give-and-go with John Adams (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass). After Sam McGarrity (Midlothian, VA/James River) headed a goal kick to Sindle, his service deflected to Adams. Adams passed to Sindle and made a run, pulling a defender with him. The space created by Adams allowed Sindle to unleash a blast from 25 yards away that snuck under the crossbar for the game-winner.
The late game heroics may not have come if it wasn't for Sindle's equalizer with 3:42 left in regulation. Sindle took a pass at the top of the goal box, made two moves and got the ball to his right foot. He then fired a shot to the left netting that beat Cole Sinclair, knotting the score at one.
The game was very even for much of the first half, with the Maroons holding a 5-3 shot edge at the half. At the 58:02 mark of the contest, Roanoke College leading scorer AJ Tierce held up a free kick, earning his second yellow of the game and a dismissal. Down a man, Roanoke took the lead just three minutes later on a Garrett Eldridge goal, with help from Brian White.
Randolph finished with an 11-9 lead in the shot category, and edged the Maroons in corners by one, 5-4. WildCat keeper Carter Smith (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) made five stops, including two point blank stops in the first half. The two scores for Sindle marked his seventh contest in his career with mutiple goals, and upped his career total to 33.
The WildCats will head to Washington and Lee University Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. for a pivotal ODAC match at Watt Field in Lexington, VA.
