LYNCHBURG, VA -- Randolph College used a 4-1 records in singles play to take down Southern Virginia University 6-2 in non-conference action from the Randolph Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.
Randolph earned two of the three matches in doubles' action, as the No. 2 pairing of Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) and Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio de Fuertes) picked up an 8-2 victory. Not to be outdone, the No. 3 pairing of Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) and Emmalyn Snead (Washington, DC/Sidwell Friends) dispatched of their opponents, 8-2.
Moving to individual action, Velazco completed a perfect afternoon for her, as she earned a come-from-behind win with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 1 singles. Culpepper also won in three sets, as she rallied to win a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) earned a straight set victory at No. 4 singles, and Snead earned a 8-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
The WildCats are now off for the fall and winter before picking up things in the spring. Randolph will open the spring season February 20 against Virginia Union University.
