WildCats Women's Soccer Shutout by Guilford College Wednesday Evening

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Guilford College first-year Hannah Schiltz posted her ninth and 10th goals of the season Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium as the Randolph College women's soccer team was blanked for the fourth consecutive game in a 3-0 loss to the Quakers.

In the first half, the two teams played mostly in the midfield though the visiting Quakers (7-3-2/2-0-2 ODAC) had the better scoring opportunities. 11:29 into the contest, GC took the lead for good as Schiltz took a pass from the left sideline and beat Randolph keeper Hunter Gibson (Newport News, VA/Denbigh).

Randolph would lock down on the Quakers the rest of the half, but could not manage many shots as the lone scoring chance for the WildCats (3-5-0/0-4-0 ODAC) came on a long-range effort by Brittany Hammons (Newport News, VA/Grafton).

After the intermission, Guilford wasted no time adding to its lead as Schiltz scored again on a great individual effort. After she won a ball on the right sideline, she darted towards net and blasted a shot into the top of the net to give the Quakers breathing room.

In the 73rd minute, the WildCats had their best opportunity as Ashley Oswald (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) and Erin Vasta (Woodstock, VA/Central) each had good shots blocked by the Quaker defense. Shortly after that flurry, Guilford capitalized on a foul call deep in WildCat territory, as Sarah Levitt took a free kick and put it right on the head of Jaclyn Nucci for her third goal of the season.

Gibson played extremely well for the WildCats, making eight saves but also coming off her line to thwart many other scoring attempts before they got to the attacker. Hammons led the WildCats with two shots, as Randolph was outshot by its visitors 22-4 on the evening. GC also took six of the seven corner kicks on the night.

Sophomore back Elisa Otero (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's) played great all night, as she helped clear multiple chances that Guilford could have had is she wasn't there. Levitt had a game-high seven shots for the Quakers.

The WildCats will return to action Saturday afternoon with another ODAC contest, this time battling the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Homecoming at 1 p.m. in WildCat Stadium.
