Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — Six players has at least five kills apiece for the Randolph College volleyball team in a straight set win over Bluefield College in non-conference action from the Randolph Athletic and Dance (RAD) Center Saturday.
The WildCats (7-5) pulled to within one of their win total of all of last year with the win Saturday. In the first set, Randolph rallied from a 9-5 early deficit to win 25-22, thanks to two kills from six different players. The turning point of the game was at 18-18, first-year Katherine Lesnak (Blountville, TN/Sullivan Central) served the WildCats to four points, providing ample cushion.
In the second set, Randolph rolled to a 25-14 win, again in part to the fantastic serving from Lesnak. With the score at 5-4 in favor of Randolph, Lesnak led the WildCats on a 12-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach. Junior Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) had her best game of the season, posting five of her game-high 11 kills in the second stanza.
In the clinching third set, Randolph's attack powered down 17 kills to take the third game 25-20. Sublett and Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) each had four finishes in the last set of the afternoon. For the match, Sublett hit at a .556 clip, chalking up kills in 11 of her 18 attempts with only one error.
Templin's percentage was a bit low Saturday, but she still chalked up eight kills and 14 digs. First-year Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) and junior Megan Wheatley (Sperryville, VA/Rappahannock Co.) each had seven kills and one ace each, while first-year Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) registered a career-high 18 digs in the victory.
First-year Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had 20 assists while Lesnak had 16 helpers and eight digs. Sophomore Sydney Henson (Winston-Salem, NC/Ronald Reagan) had six kills and first-year Tori Lange (Riverside, CA/Patriot) tied her career-high with five kills.
"I thought our block today was very good," said head coach Johnathan Willis. "It was important for us to come out today and get some confidence going back into ODAC play, and I think we accomplished that."
Layney Sandifer and Megan Randall each had eight kills to pace Bluefield (4-9), while Cheznee Daily had the game's only double-double with 23 assists and 13 digs.
Randolph will delve back into league play Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a battle against the Maroons of Roanoke College in the RAD Center.
