Box Score FERRUM, VA — Sophomore Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Randolph College men's soccer team knocked off Ferrum College 4-1 in non-conference play Thursday evening from Penn-Roediger Field. Randolph is now 6-0 on the season, the last unbeaten squad in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
Randolph (6-0) jumped out of the gates quick, as sophomore Jacob Hood (New Market, MD/Linganore) got back into the scoring column with his fourth goal of the year. The goal came at 11:27 as Hood got free and headed a pass from Sindle past a charging Panther goalkeeper. Sindle was next to tickle the twine for Randolph, as he toe flicked a shot over the keeper off of a dish from fellow sophomore Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) at 23:24 of the game.
Just over a minute later, Ferrum (2-4-1) scored on a great effort from Eddy Funes, who lofted a perfect shot from 25 yards left of the net. First-year keeper CJ Stevens (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) made a valiant effort, but the shot was perfectly placed to pull FC to within one at 2-1.
The 'Cats kept the pressure on, and after three corner kicks for Randolph a goal finally game in the form of a Joe Skaja (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) strike, his first as a WildCat. Skaja made a great run and sophomore Tristan Luxner (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) slotted the ball right through the defense for the 1-v-1 opportunity, which Skaja buried.
Right before the half, Lusczek missed a goal of his own as he blasted a shot off the post and out of danger for Ferrum. After break, Randoph locked down on defense and pushed forward offensively. After Luxner drilled a shot off the crossbar, Lusczek would finally find netting instead of a post after a great cross from Sindle. The goal was Lusczek's second of the year, and it also put a cap on the scoring for the evening.
Stevens and Ryan Woloshin (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) each played in net for the WildCats, as each made one stop in the win. Walter Romano played the second half for the Panthers in goal, making five saves. Randolph outshot Ferrum 20-7 on the evening while accumulating seven corner kicks to FC's five. First-year back Coulton Watson (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) played the entire 90 minutes, the only WildCat to get a full run while 25 members of the team got into the affair.
Randolph will now take its undefeated record to Maryville, TN for its toughest challenge to date as No. 15 Maryville College awaits for a non-conference battle Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
