Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College scored on three of their six shots Saturday in taking a home Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest 3-2 over the Randolph College men's soccer team from Ashland, VA.
The WildCats (9-4/2-4 ODAC) outshot their hosts 13-6 on the afternoon and earned nine corner kicks to just the two of the Yellow Jackets. All of that did not matter though as R-MC (4-4-2/3-1-2 ODAC) scored two second-half goals in six minutes to break open a 1-1 game.
Randolph-Macon jumped out early on in the contest, as David Sullivan scored at 2:51 on an assist from Tommy Fisher. WildCat sophomore Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) responded at 8:17 of the contest, scoring his ninth of the season to tie his own single-season scoring mark. The goal was assisted by fellow sophomore Jacob Hood (New Market, MD/Linganore) .
Shortly into the second half, the WildCats nearly took their first lead of the game as junior Joe Skaja (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) headed a corner kick toward the goal. A defender of the Yellow Jackets was there to make the save on the line. Not too long after that, R-MC's Johnny Bustillo scored with help from Fisher to push the Jackets up 2-1.
On the next shot the Yellow Jackets took they extended their lead to 3-1 as Fisher earned his fourth point of the day on a goal after a free kick. Skaja had another chance with six minutes to play but his header hit the post to keep the WildCats deficit at two. Sophomore Jacob Lusczek (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) netted a goal with five seconds left, but it was not enough to bring the 'Cats all the way back.
Matty Rocawich made six saves for the Yellow Jackets, while first-year CJ Stevens (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) stopped two shots on the afternoon.
The WildCats will entertain the Wasps of Emory & Henry College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in a doubleheader with the Randolph women's team.
