Box Score GREENSBORO, NC — The Randolph College volleyball team came into Wednesday on a three-game winning streak but couldn't get the hitting going as the WildCats dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Guilford College 3-1 from Ragan-Brown Field House.
Randolph (9-6/2-4 ODAC) struggled with the attack all contest, as the WildCats hit at just a .104 clip for the evening. The 28 attack errors was Randolph's downfall, as the hosting Quakers only had 16 on the match.
In game one, the WildCats fell behind early but rallied to cut the GC lead to two at 22-20. Two attack errors and one service later the Quakers (6-12/2-2 ODAC) had claimed the first stanza 25-20. In the second set, Guilford jumped out to a huge lead, leading by as much as 10 at 21-11 as it took game two, 25-17.
Randolph rallied to take the third game and get back into the match, capturing the set with a score of 25-23. After the score was tied at 17, Randolph scored the next three points to go up 20-17. After GC pulled to within one at 23-22, the WildCats won two of the last three points highlighted by a game-winning kill from Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) .
The Quakers would regain the momentum though, going on a 12-2 run midway through the game to take the fourth set and match 25-15. Darden finished with a team-best 11 kills for Randolph, and Megan Wheatley (Sperryville, VA/Rappahannock Co.) chalked up 10 kills and eight digs on the night.
First-year Shana Nelson (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) had nine kills and four total blocks and Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) posted eight kills and a team-best 16 digs. Setter Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had a double-double of 25 assists and 11 digs, while Katherine Lesnak (Blountville, TN/Sullivan Central) and Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) had 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
Randolph will look to rebound Friday afternoon at the Maroon Invitational with afternoon outings against Ferrum College and Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Roanoke College's C. Homer Bast Center.
