Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomore forward Corey Sindle (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) scoring title Tuesday, netting two goals as the Randolph College men's soccer team knocked off Guilford College 2-1 in the regular season finale.
Sindle, who holds the all-time scoring lead at Randolph College and has posted 29 points on the year, scored twice including the game winner 78:17 into the contest. With the victory, Randolph (13-5/6-4 ODAC) clinched at least one home game in the upcoming ODAC Tournament, which starts Saturday. Time and opponent of the game is still to be determined.
The WildCats got on the board early on in the first half, as Sindle netted a great cross from Timmy Songer (Windsor, VA/Windsor) . Guilford responded less than six minutes later, as Freddy Gomez dribbled by the backline of the WildCat defense and buried a left-footed shot to knot the game at one.
After intermission, Guilford (6-9-2/3-7 ODAC) held possession for much of the second half, leading the shot total 9-4. With 14 minutes left in the game, GC's Colin Dillon had an open net but his attempt on goal was blocked. After the shot was blocked, Dillon got the ball back at his feet but his second attempt was deflected by keeper Carter Smith (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) who hustled back.
Right after that, Randolph countered and Sindle blasted a shot into the back of the net from 20 yards out to post the game-winner for Randolph. The 13th win for the WildCats extends their win record, and gives Randolph a win in its last three and also four of the last five.
Randolph trailed in the shot category 16-8 though each team finished with five corner kicks on the evening. Right after the second Sindle goal, Virginia Wesleyan defeated Lynchburg 2-1 to clinch the eighth and final spot in the ODAC Tournament, eliminating Guilford and Hampden-Sydney from tournament contention.
Smith finished with four saves on the night, capturing his third straight victory.
Randolph clinches at least a fourth-place finish in the league, and could post as high as third place with a non-win Wednesday by Washington & Lee University against Emory & Henry College.
