Tim Johannsen begins his second season as an assistant coach after joingin the  women's and men's tennis programs prior to the start of the 2017 spring season.

Along with that, Boda also brings collegiate coaching experience.  He served as an assistant with the Liberty University men's team last season.  Boda gave instruction and helped with various drills during practice.  Liberty had three players earn All-Big South honors while Boda was an assistant, with one being named Player of the Year.

Johannsen brings with him a great pedigree as a player.  He began his college career at Armstrong State University, a Division II institution in Savannah, Ga.  While there, Johannsen proved to be one of the best in the country.  He was named Peach Belt Freshman of the Year.  During that 2008 season, he was named an All-American in both singles and doubles.  He climbed to sixth in the national singles rankings, while finishing an even more impressive second in doubles.  Johannsen helped the Pirates claim the Division II national title in 2008 and 2009.

After spending two years at Armstrong State, Johannsen transferred to Division I Virginia Commonwealth University.  Despite the move, he still excelled on the court.  Johannsen played at the number one singles spot and was the only player on the team to receive an individual national ranking.  He was then named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Year during his senior season.

His leadership is also shown through two things.  Johannsen was awarded the Black and Gold Award by VCU, which is given to the senior student-athlete who epitomizes athletic and academic achievements.  He also served as a captain for the team from 2009 through 2011.

Johannsen graduated from VCU with a degree in international studies.  He also holds an MBA from VCU.
