LYNCHBURG, Va. - For the first time in nine games, the Randolph WildCats women's volleyball team played in front of its home crowd, taking on ODAC foe Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night. The WildCats battled throughout the evening, ultimately falling to the Yellow Jackets in four sets, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18.
After splitting the first two sets, the Yellow Jackets pulled away to close out the match, outscoring the 'Cats 50-34 over the final two sets. Randolph controlled the net defensively, recording 13 team blocks to Randolph-Macon's five. The WildCats also matched the Yellow Jackets nearly blow for blow defensively, tallying 61 digs on the night.
Makayla Waiters owned the net with eight blocks, including three solo, while Destanie Ambers led the Randolph attack with 12 kills and two aces. Ambers also added 15 digs. Carly Schopp chipped in a double-double with 15 assists and 17 digs.
With the loss, the WildCats fall to 6-4 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Randolph hits the road again on Saturday, Sept. 19, traveling to St. Mary's College for the Seahawks Tri-Match. The 'Cats will face Hood College at 1 p.m. before taking on host St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
