WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Randolph College women's soccer team crushed the Salem College Spirits on the road with a 6-0 victory on Wednesday evening.
Casey Serttas got the six-goal win started early, when she found the back of the net in the 11th minute. Randolph continued to control the offense, putting the Salem keeper to the test. The team's second goal came from
Ava Brandenburg in the 26th minute.
The Spirits continued to battle, looking for any scoring opportunities, but the WildCats controlled the first half with 18 shots to zero.
Out of the half, the 'Cats continued their early pressure offense. In the 49th minute, Serttas added another goal to make it 3-0, and then about 10 minutes later,
Bailey Richardson came up to score her third goal of the season to push the 'Cats up 4-0 with 17 minutes left in the half.
Salem's attempts to put one on the board to avoid the shutout were quickly stopped by the WildCats' defense. As the clock wound down,
Jackelin Martinez put the WildCats up 5-0 with a goal in the 72nd minute that was too high for the Salem keeper to control, and to close out the game was
Amanda Ramirez-Rodriguez, off a free kick, that went straight through the Salem defenders and into the net, for her second goal of the season.
Richardson led all players with six shots and five on goal. WildCats' keepers
Kacie Walker,
Sam Arredondo, and
Abby Gilbert each saw minutes in the net.
With the win, the WildCats move to 3-0-2 overall. The 'Cats are back in Winston-Salem on Saturday at Carolina University for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
