Women's Volleyball Splits Day Two of Roanoke Classic

ROANOKE, Va. - The Randolph WildCats women's volleyball team wrapped up day two of the Roanoke Classic on Saturday, splitting the day with a loss to N.C. Wesleyan before taking down Brevard in the second match of the twinbill.

In a rematch of the N.C. Wesleyan Invitational semifinal, the Battling Bishops emerged victorious in three sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19. The WildCats tallied 30 kills, 30 assists and 46 digs while collecting the only three blocks of the match. Kelsey Bowler led Randolph with 13 kills, while Carly Schopp added 23 assists. Tiffany Carr and Destanie Ambers each recorded an ace, with Ambers adding 14 digs.

In the second match, Randolph traded blows with the Brevard Tornados in a four-set thriller, closing out the weekend with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 victory. The WildCats came out swinging, recording 12 kills on 38 attacks for a .237 hitting percentage while limiting themselves to just three errors compared to Brevard's seven.

Brevard opened the second set with a quick 6-1 lead and held off a late Randolph rally. The WildCats scored five of the final seven points, but the comeback fell short. Randolph responded in the third, scoring the final four points of the set on Brevard attack errors to take a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set featured another back-and-forth battle, with an Ambers kill erasing Brevard's 19-18 advantage. From there, Randolph closed out the match with two service aces and three kills, while a Brevard service error helped seal the victory.

Ambers led all players with 18 kills, while Bowler added 13. Schopp turned in a dominant performance with four aces, 19 digs and 35 assists. McKayla Padgett and Ambers each recorded 20 digs.

With the split, the WildCats moved to 6-3 on the season. Randolph returns home for its first match at Giles Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 16, against ODAC foe Randolph-Macon. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
