LYNCHBURG, Va. – Two goals proved to be enough as the Randolph WildCats men's soccer team held off a late surge from the Regent Royals on Saturday night, defeating the visitors 2-1.

The 'Cats jumped all over the Regent defense, firing six shots in the opening half while applying heavy pressure early and often. Randolph spent several lengthy possessions in Regent territory before John Clark danced his way around a small army of Royals to score the opening goal in the 27th minute, his first of the season.

The thin 1-0 lead was quickly doubled in the 55th minute when Bryan Leiva-Membreno found the left post on a free kick, giving the 'Cats some breathing room. Regent, now on their heels, turned up the pressure and eventually found the back of the net late in the match after an errant pass set up the Royals' lone goal.

The WildCats' bend-but-don't-break defense weathered the late push, forcing Regent to settle for six second-half corner kicks as Randolph held on for the 2-1 victory.

Randolph outshot the visitors 13-10 and played a disciplined defensive outing, committing just five fouls to Regent's 11. KJ Wolford, Sage Dombrovskis, Brayden Pineda and Tyler Richardson each recorded two shots. Dominic Cortes made one save on two Regent shots on goal.
With the win, Randolph improves to 3-0-1 on the year.

The WildCats return to action Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host the Pfeiffer Eagles. The matchup will serve as Randolph's Code Black game, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. at WildCat Stadium.
