LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College softball team dropped both games to the #15 Christopher Newport, 5-18 in five-innings and 1-8 on Wednesday afternoon at home.
CNU struck early, plating runs in each of the first two innings before breaking the game open with a three-run third and two more in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead.
Randolph found its spark in the bottom of the fourth, stringing together its best offensive inning of the game. After loading the bases,
Victoria Porretta got the WildCats on the board with an RBI single.
Kyndall Shapiro followed with a two-run double down the right field line, and
Haili Gonzalez capped the rally with a two-RBI double to right, cutting the deficit to 9-5.
Despite the momentum shift, the Captains responded with a big fifth inning, scoring nine runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs, to seal the 18-5 victory.
Randolph finished with three hits on the afternoon, with doubles from Gonzalez and Shapiro accounting for four of the team's five RBIs. Porretta added the other RBI in the fourth inning rally.

Rylee Humble tossed 4.1 innings while striking out one.
Savannah Cash came on in relief in the fifth inning.
In game two, the WildCats got on the board first after
Addy Compton hit an RBI single to bring home Gonzalez.Â
Despite the early lead, the Captains were able to come back in the remaining innings with eight runs scored to win.
The team finished with four hits and Compton's RBI single. In the circle,
Delaney Sipes pitched all seven innings with three strikeouts.Â
The WildCats are on the road to Shenandoah on Saturday for a 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. doubleheader.
