Women's Lacrosse Battles Back but Falls to Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. — The Randolph College women's lacrosse team battled back to take a third-quarter lead, but a strong fourth quarter by Brevard lifted the Tornadoes to a 14-8 win on Friday afternoon.

Randolph jumped out to a fast start in the opening quarter behind Mackenzie Woodson, who scored twice, second goal assisted by Emille Taduran, in the first two minutes to give the WildCats an early 2-0 lead. After Brevard answered with two goals to tie the game, Maddi Baldwin finished a pass from Henley Bagby to put Randolph back in front. Woodson added her third goal of the period off an assist from Ally Horne, helping the WildCats hold a 4-3 lead after the first quarter.

Brevard used a quick four-goal burst midway through the second quarter to move ahead 7-4. Randolph responded with three late goals to even the score before halftime. Abi Brigman started the run with a goal assisted by Woodson, and Woodson followed with another tally. With just 30 seconds remaining in the half, Zoe Green scored off a pass from Woodson to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the break.

Randolph briefly reclaimed the lead in the third quarter when Woodson converted on a free-position opportunity with 7:25 remaining to make it 8-7. The WildCat defense held Brevard scoreless for the entire quarter, carrying the one-goal advantage into the final frame.

Brevard responded in the fourth quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Woodson led Randolph with five goals and two assists in the contest. Baldwin, Brigman, and Green each added a goal for the WildCats. Taduran led the team with five caused turnovers.
