Woodson’s Hat Trick Fuels Late Push, WildCats Fall to Warren Wilson

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's lacrosse team hosted Warren Wilson for a midweek contest. The WildCats chipped away in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as the team fell 6-11 to the Owls.

The Owls got out to an early lead in the opening quarter, scoring three goals to lead 3-0 with five minutes remaining. A pass from Mackenzie Woodson led to Henley Bagby netting the first goal for the WildCats of the game. However, the Owls responded with two more in net to close out the quarter, 5-1.

Once again, the Owls got on the board quickly with three goals to go up, 8-1. Woodson then saw the back of the net off a pass from Zoe Green to end the Owls' run before closing out the half. Warren Wilson led 8-2 at halftime.

Out of halftime, Randolph's offense started heating up with Woodson scoring the only two goals of the third quarter, one unassisted and the other assisted by Green. The 'Cats came within four heading into the final quarter, 8-4.

Thirty seconds into the final quarter, Woodson from Emille Taduran scored to close the gap even more. Then a free position goal from Bagby put the WildCats within two, 8-6. However, the 'Cats were unable to continue their offensive pressure as the Owls ended the game on a three-goal run to seal the victory.

Mireya Norvile was in goal for Randolph and collected eight saves. Woodson led the team with four goals to earn herself a hat trick and had five caused turnovers. Bagby followed with two goals Woodson and Taduran each won five draw controls.

The WildCats are back home on Saturday to face Sweet Briar to open ODAC play at 1 p.m.
