Women's Lacrosse Explodes in 2nd Quarter to Roll Past Sweet Briar in ODAC Opener, 18-6

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish, with a huge second quarter to power past Sweet Briar, 18-6, on Saturday in their ODAC opener at home.

The Vixens struck early, taking a 3-1 lead midway through the first quarter. The WildCats quickly respond, closing the quarter on a 4-0 run. Mackenzie Woodson and Jaci Moore each found the back of the net during the stretch, while Henley Bagby capped the run to give the 'Cats a 5-3 lead.

The second quarter proved to be the difference. After Sweet Briar cut the deficit to one, Randolph erupted for eight goals in the frame. Woodson led the charge with five goals in the quarter, many coming off feeds from Emille Taduran, Moore added three goals in the period, including two in the final minute, as the WildCats took a commanding 13-5 lead into halftime.

Randolph continued to control the pace in the second half. Taduran opened the third quarter scoring with an extra-player goal, and Zoe Green added a defensive score shortly after. Woodson netted another to push the lead to 16-6 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Woodson added her ninth goal of the game on a free-position opportunity, and Taduran closed out the scoring with her second goal to seal the 18-6 victory.

Woodson led all scorers with nine goals, which moves her to third overall in the program for most goals in a game, while Moore finished with five goals and two assists. Taduran had a strong all-around performance with two goals and seven assists, Bagby contributed a goal and two assists, and Green contributed one goal and led with six caused turnovers.

In the net, Mireya Norville collected three saves and three ground balls.

The WildCats are road to Eastern Mennonite on March 28 at 2 p.m.
