LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College women's basketball played Wednesday night at the Frances and Don Giles Gymnasium in a loss to the University of Lynchburg, 42-67.
The Wildcats kept pace early, ending the first quarter tied at 11-11 after a balanced opening stretch.
Jaellen Hillery provided an early spark for Randolph, scoring efficiently from the field and helping the Wildcats stay level through the opening 10 minutes.
Lynchburg gained momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Randolph 20-10 to take a 31-21 lead into halftime.Â
The third quarter proved decisive as Lynchburg extended its advantage with a 22-7 run. Randolph was held to just two field goals in the period, allowing the Hornets to open up a 53-28 cushion heading into the final quarter.
Randolph showed resilience in the fourth, evenly scoring with Lynchburg 14-14 and closing the game with improved offensive execution. Hillery led the Wildcats with a season-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Brooklyn Finnerty and
Taniya Jackson added five points apiece, while Lexi Oge pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The WildCats are back in action on the road to Roanoke at 4 p.m.
