LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's basketball team fell to Guilford College, 85-52, in ODAC action Saturday evening inside the Frances and Don Giles Gymnasium.
The Quakers set the tone early in the first quarter, outscoring the WildCats 24-11. The game was fairly close until around four minutes to go, when the Quakers went on a 15-4 run to open this game up. The second quarter was much like the first, as the Quakers continued their offensive pressure, leading at the half, 48-24.
Randolph looked to regroup coming out of halftime, but Guilford used a strong third quarter keep the game in their advantage. The Quakers outscored the WildCats 17-12 in the period.
The WildCats continued to battle in the final quarter, putting together their most productive offensive stretch. The 'Cats knocked down 5-of-18 shots and connected on a pair of three-pointers, but the Quakers answered with timely shooting, scoring 20 points in the quarter to maintain control and close out the game.
Sophia Stevens poured in a season-high 19 points, going 7-of-16 from the floor and adding two three-pointers.
Taniya Jackson provided a spark off the bench with eight points, while
Pariz Minor anchored the pain with 11 rebounds.
Randolph is back on the road to Hollins on Jan. 21 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
