ASHLAND, Va. - The women's basketball team took the trip up to Randolph-Macon for a weekend ODAC game this afternoon. The WildCats fell to the Yellow-Jackets 43-69.
The Yellow-Jackets opened with a 6-0 run in the first quarter until
Taniya Jackson ended it with a made free throw, and
Makiah Scott followed with a jumper at 2:34 to put the score at 6-3. Another layup followed from Scott, but the Yellow-Jackets closed out the quarter leading 11-5.
The first made basket came at the 8:03 mark in the second quarter by Randolph-Macon, and that was followed by a layup. Jackson sank all three of free throws to put the 'Cats down eight and turned around with a jumper, but the Yellow Jackets responded with three of their own to lead 18-10 with 5:52 to go. The teams continued to trade points as the minutes wound down. At half, the score was 29-15.Â
The third quarter saw a slight momentum push for the WildCats, scoring 15 points to the Yellow-Jackets' 16 points. However, Randolph-Macon maintained control of the game and led 45-30 heading into the fourth quarter. However, it was all Randolph-Macon in the fourth, as they outscored Randolph 24-13, to take the win.
Jackson led the team with 11 points off the bench and went 7-for-9 at the free-throw line.
Sophia Stevens had 10 points and five rebounds.
Pariz Minor collected nine rebounds and six points, and
Jaellen Hillery added six points.
The team is back on the road to Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
