LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph women's soccer team hosted Eastern Mennonite for Senior Day and their ODAC home opener. It was a tough battle in the first half that ended scoreless, but the Royals got past the WildCats' defense to win 1-0.
In the first half, the WildCats and the Royals battled competitively with both sides generating early chances. Despite many scoring opportunities for both teams, neither side could capitalize, sending the game into halftime knotted at 0-0.
In the second half, both teams continued to battle, but Eastern Mennonite broke through in the 63rd minute to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Randolph nearly answered immediately as
Madison Booker struck the crossbar just a minute later, keeping the WildCats within striking distance.
Despite late pressure and multiple scoring chances in the closing minutes, the WildCats couldn't find the equalizer as the Royals held on for the 1-0 victory.
Randolph led with 14 shots to EMU's 12. EMU had eight shots on goal and Randolph tallied four shots on goal. WildCat's keeper
Rachel Fields picked up seven saves and EMU starting keeper Katie Parks had one and keeper Camden Jefferson had two.
The 'Cats are back at WildCat Stadium on Wednesday for an ODAC meet-up with the Vixens of Sweet Briar at 7 p.m.
