LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Bridgewater in the WildCats' ODAC opener on Saturday night at WildCat Stadium. The Eagles took an early lead and Randolph fought back late but ultimately fell in the end 3-2.
The Eagles led 2-0 in the first half before the WildCats could register a shot. The first score came at 12:41 and the second at 13:38. Despite the early deficit, Randolph did not back down. The WildCats got on the scoreboard in the 19th minutes as Bryan Leiva-Membreno (Herndon, Va./Herndon) assisted Marcus Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) on his goal. Goalkeeper Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) made three big saves to prevent Bridgewater from further increasing its lead. The score remained 2-1 in BC's favor at halftime.
In the second half, the WildCats looked for a potential equalizer but were thwarted by Eagles keeper Davis Bashore. Trey Widtrick scored his third goal of the night for Bridgewater in the 75th minute to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage. Randolph did not give up as it scored with just under four minutes remaining to play on a goal by Ian Sigmon (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd). That would be it for the scoring in the game as the Eagles held on for the win.
Bridgewater led in total shots 14-10 and held a slight advantage in shots on goal 6-5. The Eagles also led in corner kicks 5-4.
Dominic Cortes finished the night with three saves as did Bashore for Bridgewater.
Randolph will make the short trip across town on Wednesday night as they face off against cross-town rival Lynchburg. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
