LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph women's soccer team battled a tough opponent in the Spirits of Salem College (N.C.) on Saturday afternoon. An even game in the first half, but it was the WildCats in the second half to win 2-1 over the Spirits.
The opening half saw offense and defense from both teams. The Spirits netted the first goal just over 20 minutes into the game, to put them up 1-0. The WildCats, looking to even the score before halftime, found an opening 10 minutes later when first-year

The half ended, 1-1. Randolph led 9-6 in shots over Salem (N.C.) heading into halftime.
After the break, both teams were looking for scoring opportunities. It wasn't until the 72-minute mark, when a cross from first-year
Ava Brandenburg to junior
Keghan Marion led to the WildCats' second goal of the day, to put them up 2-1 with around 18 minutes to go.
The WildCats continue to play keep away to keep the Spirits from tying the game. The minutes began to wound down and the Spirits could not find the equalizer. The 'Cats remain undefeated at home, 3-0, and overall 3-2-1, as the team prepares to head into conference play.
Randolph overall had 19 shots to Salem's 11 shots and led 14-9 in shots on goal.
Rachel Fields scooped up eight saves and Salem's goalkeeper Michaela Iapaluccio had 12 saves.
The 'Cats travel crosstown to Lynchburg on Wednesday for the ODAC opener on the road. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
