Women’s Volleyball Drops to #6 Washington and Lee

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted #6 Washington and Lee on Friday evening at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats gave the Generals a good fight but W&L outlasted Randolph 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-23).

The Generals held a 5-4 lead in the first set until the WildCats put a small run together to lead 7-5 and then 8-6. Randolph went up 10-8 and while it briefly surrendered it to the Generals, the WildCats were ahead 15-12 and then 18-17. Washington and Lee used an 8-2 run in the end to pull away and claim the set 25-20.

Randolph scored the first point of the second set but W&L rattled off six straight points to lead 6-1. The Generals maintained a significant lead throughout the frame and won easily 25-14.

W&L held a 9-2 lead in the third set and looked to be in firm control. The WildCats clawed their way back as they would close to within two points at 14-12. Randolph briefly held a 16-15 lead and gave way to the Generals. The WildCats took a late lead at 21-20 and had the set tied at 23-23. W&L notched the last two points on back-to-back kills to come away with close win.

Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led the team with eight kills. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had a double-double effort of 16 assists and 10 digs. Abby Maldonado (High Points, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) led in digs with 18. Caroline Towle (Warrenton, Fauquier) contributed 14 digs and Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) had 10 digs.

Randolph is back on the court tomorrow morning as it hosts Bridgewater. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m.
