Women’s Volleyball Defeats Hood 3-1

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Hood College on Saturday afternoon at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats defeated the Blazers 3-1 to record their third straight win and improve to 4-6 on the season.

The Blazer had the first two points of the first set to take an early 2-0 lead. Randolph would knot the score at 2-2 but Hood pushed ahead and led 5-3. The WildCats then went on a game-changing 11-1 run to go up 14-6. At 15-8, the 'Cats then used a 10-0 run to close out the set and win 25-8.

The WildCats continued their run into the second set as they started off scoring six straight points that was part of a 15-3 run to start the frame. Hood closed the score to 18-8 but Randolph was again too much as they won the set 25-13.

The third set saw the Blazers get out in front of the WildCats and lead 10-7. Randolph tied the set at 11-11 and 13-13. The 'Cats held a 17-15 lead before the Blazers came back to wrestle the lead from the WildCats and go up 18-17. The WildCats tied it up at 20-20 but could not get ahead as Hood's 5-1 run to end the set gave it a 25-21 win.

The beginning of the fourth set mirrored the prior one as the teams were neck and neck early on. With the score at 7-6 in Hood's favor, Randolph pulled away with a 10-1 run to lead 16-8. The Blazers would try to stay in it with the score at 24-16 WildCats but Brooklyn Finnerty's (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) kill ended it the match in Randolph's favor.

Kelsey Bowler (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) led with 12 kills and hit .458 on the afternoon. She also led the team in digs with nine. Jamie Galinis (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley) added 11 kills on a .364 hitting percentage and had three service aces. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) tailed 32 assists and nine digs.

Randolph is home again for the first of three straight ODAC matches as they welcome cross-town rival Lynchburg on Wednesday. The match begins at 6:30 p.m.
