Men’s Soccer Dominates Mary Baldwin 4-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Mary Baldwin on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. The WildCats scored late in the first half and then broke open the game with a strong second half as they defeated the Fighting Squirrels 4-0.

Both teams traded off shots to start the first half and struggled to generate any offense. With time winding down in the first period, a foul on Mary Baldwin granted the WildCats a free kick. Bryan Leiva-Membreno's (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) offer was able to find Trace Dockman (Waynesboro, Pa./Scotland Chapel Acad.) and he headed the ball into the right side of the net to give Randolph a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw the WildCats' attack outshoot the Fighting Squirrels 16-3. Marcus Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) banged a laser of a shot into the goal in the 48th minute to make it 2-0 in Randolph's favor. In the 58th minute, Eyouel Samuel (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) sent a pass in the middle to Tyler Richardson (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville HS) who was able to push one past the Mary Baldwin goalkeeper and in to make it 3-0. In the 67th minute, Leiva-Membreno's shot was denied but the rebound made its way to Corey Williams (Lynchburg, Va./Appomattox County HS) and he kicked to ball into the goal for a 4-0 lead.

Randolph led in total shots 24-7 and in shots on goal 12-3. The WildCats also led in corner kicks 8-1.

Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) played the majority of the game in goal and made three saves. Tyler Blome (Moseley, Va./Cosby HS) and Jonas Bryson (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) also saw time and did not record a save.

Randolph heads on the road to McDaniel on Saturday. Game time from Westminster, Md will be at 3:00 pm.
