STAUNTON, Va. - The Randolph women's soccer team opened the 2025 season at Mary Baldwin Monday afternoon. The WildCats could not find an opening as the Fighting Squirrels' defense held firm, dropping their season opener 0-1.
Mary Baldwin's only goal of the evening came in the 13th minute as the Fighting Squirrels were able to get past the WildCats' defense to kick the ball into the left-side of the net. Randolph had one shot more than Mary Baldwin in the first half with four shots.
The Fighting Squirrels held onto their 1-0 lead into halftime. Going into the second half, Randolph had several scoring opportunities with seven corner kicks. However, none of them converted into a goal as the minutes wound down.
Overall, Randolph led 10-4 in total shots as well as 6-2 for shots on goal.
Rachel Fields finished with one save while Mary Baldwin's goalkeeper Amelia Cross tallied six saves.
The 'Cats return to WIldCat Stadium on Saturday at 4 p.m. to host William Peace.
