LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team made the short trip across town to face cross-city rival Lynchburg on Wednesday evening at Turner Gym. The Hornets won by the score of 106-78.
It was an 11-6 contest with 17:39 on the clock in the first half when the Hornets went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 21-6 with 15:07 remaining in the half. A 13-5 WildCat run, however, closed the gap to seven points, 26-19, with 10:39 left. An 11-2 run by Lynchburg gave the home squad a 16-point lead, 37-21, at 7:35. Randolph moved to within 11 points of tying the game up but the Hornets used a 17-7 run to lead 58-37 at the half.
Lynchburg outscored Randolph 48-41 in the second half. The Hornet lead grew to as much as 37 points, 85-48, in the second half.
Timothy James Jr. (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem HS) scored a career-high 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) also had 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with five rebounds. Amari Gorham (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown) added 10 points. Maurice Davis (Richmond, Va./James River) had a team-high six rebounds to go with six points.
Randolph hosts Roanoke on Saturday afternoon. Game time from Giles Gymnasium will be at 4:30 p.m.
