LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hosted Roanoke on Saturday afternoon in ODAC play. The Maroons defeated the WildCats 94-66.
Roanoke got out to an 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the first half. The WildCats quickly brought the deficit down to three points as Moustapha Diop (Fuquay Varina, N.C./Apex Friendship) scored two baskets to make it an 8-5 contest. Roanoke went up 11-5 on a three by Joshua McClary. Randolph then went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 15-11 at 13:31. A 13-2 Maroon run gave the visitors a 24-17 lead with 10:09 showing on the game clock. Randolph made it a one-possession contest, 24-22, at 9:14.
Roanoke's 16-4 run staked it to a 40-26 advantage with under four minutes remaining in the half. Randolph closed to within 10 points with 1:58 left but RC would go into the locker room up 47-32.
Roanoke increased its lead to 19 points, 51-32, just over a minute into the second half. The 'Cats pulled to within 14 points of tying, 55-41, at the 16:27 mark but that was close as they would get as the Maroons pulled away in the second half.
Jordan Phillips-McLoyd's (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) 18 points led Randolph. Elijah Cox (Galax, N.C./Carroll County) added 10 points. Ryan Viruso (Davidson, N.C./Hough HS) scored eight points in 12 minutes off the bench.
The WildCats travel to Ferrum to face the Panthers on Wednesday night. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. Randolph won the last meeting between the two teams 10 days ago 96-89.
