WildCats Take Down Phoenix 3-0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Randolph men's volleyball team hit the road on Friday as the WildCats travelled to Wilson College. Randolph came out on the winning end as it defeated the Phoenix 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-21).

Wilson started the first set strong as it scored the first three points on its way to leading 4-1. Randolph was able to overtake the Phoenix as it got out in front 9-8. Randolph could not get off a significant run as it tried to match the Phoenix point for point. Late in the set, Wilson led 23-20 and then 24-22. The WildCats were able to force a tie at 24-24. Both teams would exchange points until the 'Cats tallied two straight points to go ahead 28-27. Wilson tied it up at 28-all but kills by Elijah Woods (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory HS) and Mats Beentjes (Beverwijk, The Netherlands Kennemer College) gave Randolph the 30-28 victory.

The WildCats led 10-6 in the second set. Randolph got on a bit of a run as it pushed ahead 19-12. After Wilson closed to within four points at 19-15, the WildCats ended the match on a 6-3 run to pull away and win 25-18.

Randolph scored the first four points in set three going on to an 11-5 lead. The WildCats were ahead 19-16. After a kill by Noah Furr (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Bishop Moore) made it 20-16, the two schools would exchange points the rest of the way as Randolph claimed a 25-21 set win.

The WildCats hit .302 as a team on the night. Beentjes had a team-high .389 hitting percentage and led the 'Cats with 14 digs to go with eight kills. Woods had a team-best 12 kills. Shamel Smith (Tamarac, Fla.) finished with 11 kills hitting at a .316 clip. Conner Maher (Buckeye, Ariz./Odyssey Institute) totaled 41 assists.

The WildCats remain in Pennsylvania tomorrow as they head to Messiah University. Randolph will first face Eastern University at 1:00 p.m. followed by the host Falcons at 3:00 p.m.
