BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Randolph College women's basketball team opened ODAC play at Bridgewater. The WildCats kept themselves in reach but it was not enough as they fell 42-54 to the Eagles.
Randolph got the scoring off early with a three from
Sophia Stevens, assisted by
Pariz Minor. The 'Cats followed that up with a jumper from Minor, to start 5-0 with 7:56 to go. The Eagles got on the board right after with a jumper, then they converted two free throws to close the game 5-4. Minor responded with a jumper to push the lead 7-4 at 6:35. The Eagles got a burst of offense, going on 14-3 run to close out the first quarter. The Eagles led 18-10.
It was an almost even second quarter with the WildCats outsourcing the EaglesÂ
13-10. The Eagles opened with three just seven seconds into the quarter.
Talia Edmond responded with a jumper that kicked off an 8-0 run for the WildCats to close within three, 21-18 with 5:51 to go. Then a 6-2 run for the Eagles pushed their lead to seven, 27-20 with just under a minute to go. One converted free throw for the Eagles and a three-pointer from
Taniya Jackson closed the half with the Eagles leading 28-23.
The WildCats opened the third with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 30-30 at the 5:00 minute mark. The Eagles hit back with a 6-3 run to lead 36-33 at the end of the third quarter. Randolph outscored Bridgwater 10-8.
The 'Cats once again tied the game at 36-36 with an and-one from Edmond. The Eagles then hit a layup to push their lead to two, however,
Amaya Thrash got on the board with a jumper to tie the game once again 38-38. An 8-2 run for the Eagles with 5:07 to go opened up the game 46-40, followed by another 8-2 run for Bridgewater which sealed the victory at 54-42.
Maddie Pabon led the team with nine points, while also recording two steals. Jackson and Stevens each scored seven a-piece. Stevens also picked three steals, while Jackson got four rebounds. Edmond was 2-for-3 from the line and recorded six points for Randolph.
Randolph struggled offensively going 18-for-51 (35.3%) from the field and 3-for-15 from behind-the-arc. The team had the advantage over the Eagles in points off turnovers 20-18 and fastbreak points 10-5.
The WildCats travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday for 4:30 p.m. tip-off start.
