VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.- The Randolph women's volleyball team played its final regular season ODAC match of the season on Wednesday as the WildCats faced #16 Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins won the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15).
The Marlins got out to a 9-0 lead to start the first set. Their lead grew to 17-4. The WildCats tried to close the gap and got to within eight points but ultimately fell 25-16.
Randolph scored the first point of the second set on an attack error by the Marlins' Breana Brooks. VWU then rattled off seven straight points to take a 7-1 lead. The WildCats closed to within three points at 8-5 but the Marlins went on a 6-0 run to go ahead 14-5. The 'Cats went on a run of their own at 5-1 to make it a 15-10 score. Another brief Marlin run gave the home team a 19-10 advantage. Randolph got the score to 20-14 but Virginia Wesleyan closed out the set with a 5-0 run to win 25-14.
The team teams exchanged points to start the third set. The Marlins pushed ahead to take a 15-8 lead. The team exchange points back and forth with the score standing at 21-15. VWU closed out the frame on a 4-0 run to win 25-15.
Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led Randolph with seven kills on the night. Kelsey Bowler (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) added five kills. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) totaled 16 assists. Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) had a team-high nine digs.
The WildCats close out the regular season on Saturday at Mary Washington. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
