LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's soccer team turned in a dominant performance, shutting out Averett 2-0 at WildCat Stadium.
Randolph's attack was relentless throughout the opening half, firing off 11 shots in the first half. The pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when
Alana Ellis put it back for the WildCats, finishing off a pass from
Madison Booker to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw the WildCats continue to control possession, posting up another 11 shots in the second half. Ellis doubled the advantage in the 68th minute, finding the back of the net for another put back, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Defensively, the WildCats were rock-solid, limiting the Cougars to only two total shots and one on goal all game. Keeper
Rachel Fields only had to punch out one save, as Randolph's backline shut down opportunities before they could develop. The WildCats owned the stat sheet with 22-2 edge in shots and an 11-1 shots on goal, as well as 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The 'Cats are on the road to Roanoke on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
