Women’s Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match to Virginia Union

RICHMOND, VA.- The Randolph women's volleyball team played a non-conference match on Tuesday against Virginia Union from Division II. The Panthers defeated the WildCats 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-21).

The Panthers led in the first set 8-3. The WildCats came back to overtake Virginia Union as they used an 11-4 run to take a 14-12 lead. After the Panthers took the lead back, the WildCats took leads of 18-16 and 20-19. Virginia Union went on a 6-0 run in the end to pull away from the 'Cats and win 25-20.

Virginia Union led for most of the second set. Down 19-14, Randolph rallied to tie the match four times with the latest at 24-24. The Panthers received kills by Aireanne Johnson and Maria Pena to win the set 26-24.

The WildCats led early in the third set 3-1 until the Panthers overtook the 'Cats to lead 6-4. Randolph took a brief 7-6 lead but Virginia Union would pull ahead with a 10-4 run. The WildCats did come back to get ahead 19-18 but the Panthers pulled away with a 7-2 run to win the set 25-21.

Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led the WildCats with nine kills and hit .350 on the evening. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 23 assists. Caroline Towle (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) led in digs with 19 and added three service aces. Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) chipped in 12 digs.

Randolph returns to ODAC play on Saturday when it travels to Roanoke. The match begins at 12:00 p.m.
