Women’s Volleyball Defeats Roanoke for First ODAC Win of the Season

SALEM, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team played Roanoke College in an ODAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Cregger Center. The WildCats needed five sets but were able to outlast the Maroons in the end as they won 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 15-12).

The victory is the WildCats' second over the Maroons in four matches and the first since 2023. It is also the first conference win over Roanoke for Randolph since 2011.

The Maroons led the WildCats 11-5 in the first set. The Roanoke lead was 16-10 before the 'Cats rallied with a big 14-4 run to move ahead and lead 24-20. RC, however, had a rally of its own as it came back to overtake the WildCats and win the set 26-24.

Randolph led 13-6 over Roanoke in the second set. The Maroons erased their deficit to move within a point at 16-15. The WildCats continued to push forward as it ended the set on a 6-2 run to win 25-19.

The WildCats got out to a 7-5 lead in the third set. Roanoke briefly took the lead away but the WildCats grabbed it back to go ahead 11-10. The Maroons used a 9-1 run to go on top 19-12. Randolph got as close as three points at 20-17 but it was not enough in the end as the Maroons won the set 25-19.

Randolph got out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth frame and never trailed. Its lead grew to as much as nine points at 23-14 on the way to a 25-17 win to force a deciding set.

The WildCats led 8-6 in the fifth set and the Maroons tied it up twice at 8-8 and 9-9. The Randolph lead was 12-11 but a Jaelle Hinkle (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield HS) kill followed by a pair of kills by Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) put the Maroons away for good.

Caroline Towle (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) had a double-double effort of 14 kills and 23 digs to go along with three service aces. Finnerty added 13 kills, five block assists, and four digs, while hitting .360. Kelsey Bowler (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) chipped in 11 kills and eight digs. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 40 assists on the day and four block assists. Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) had 19 digs and Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) 12 digs.

Randolph returns to the court next Saturday when it travels to Greensboro. The WildCats will play the host Pride at 2:00 pm and Pfeiffer at 4:00 p.m.
