ROANOKE, Va. - The Randolph women's soccer team went up to Hollins University for a Saturday afternoon game. The WildCats won in stunning fashion, defeating Hollins 7-1 in conference play.
It was all the WildCats in the first half, with six goals recorded. The first goal came from
Casey Serttas, about nine minutes into the game after dribbling through three defenders to net the ball in the top right corner. A few minutes later,
Madison Booker put one in the net, assisted by
Ava Brandenburg, from a pass through the center. Serttas recorded another goal for the 'Cats in the 27th minute. Booker then turned around for her second goal of the game about a minute later. Closing out the half,
Alana Ballowe, assisted by
Keghan Marion, put it in the net with a pass over the top and down the middle of the field. Brandenburg scored the sixth goal off a corner kick.
In the first half, Randolph had 23 shots to Hollins' two shots.
Straight out of halftime, about two minutes in, Ballowe netted her second goal of the game with an assist from Serttas. Hollins, looking to avoid a shutout, scored their first goal of the game in the 49th minute. After that, Randolph and Hollins traded possession back and forth and put up scoring opportunities.
Overall, Randolph led 31-9 in shots, and 19-2 in shots on goal. Goalkeepers
Rachel Fields and
Abby Gilbert both saw the field, with Gilbert collecting the WildCats' one save. Hollins' keeper T Shover had 12 saves.
The WildCats are back home on Wednesday to face Averett at 7 p.m.
