LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Shenandoah in an ODAC match on Friday evening at Giles Gymnasium. The Hornets won in three sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21).
The WildCats had an early lead in the first set as they were ahead 8-3 and then 12-7. Randolph held a 15-10 advantage until the Hornets went on a 6-1 run to take a 16-15 lead. While the WildCats tied the set up three times, Shenandoah went on a 5-0 run to break an 18-18 tie and led 23-18. The WildCats closed to within two points at 24-22 but the Hornets took the set win on a kill by Hannah Hylton.
Randolph led 6-5 in the second set but SU pulled ahead 16-9. The lead grew to 19-10 and then 21-12. The WildCats narrowed their deficit with a 10-2 run to close to within two points at 23-21 but the Hornets scored the last two points to win the set 25-21.
The third set saw the lead change hands nine times early on. Randolph tied the set late at 20-20 and then trailed 22-21. Shenandoah registered three straight kills in the end to win 25-21.
Jamie Galinis (Greenville, N.C./Timberlake) led with eight kills for the WildCats. Caroline Towle (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) added seven kills, six digs, and two service aces. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) finished with 21 assists, six digs, and four service aces. Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) led in digs with 11.
Randolph heads on the road Tuesday to face Virginia Union. The match starts at 6:00 p.m.
