ROANOKE, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team traveled to Hollins on Wednesday evening for an ODAC match. HU took the first set but the WildCats rallied to win the next three as they defeated Hollins 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19).
The WildCats, who are winners of four straight, improve to 11-14 overall and are 3-6 in the ODAC.
In the first set, Hollins got out in front of Randolph 15-4. The WildCats climbed their way back in but could only get as close as seven points as they fell 25-15.
In the second set, Randolph scored the first three points of the set to lead 3-0. While Hollins would go on to tie the score up, the WildCats pushed forward with a 12-4 run to go ahead 16-8. HU rallied to cut the score to 16-12. The WildCats upped their advantage to 22-14 but Hollins would not go away quietly as its 8-1 run made it 23-21 in Randolph's favor. Kills by Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) and Kelsey Bowler (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) put an end to any Hollins comeback as the WildCats won the frame 25-21.
The 'Cats had an 11-8 lead in the third set. HU used a 9-2 run to go up 17-13. Randolph's 8-2 run put it on top 21-19. Hollins tied it up 21-all but the WildCats outscored HU 4-1 down the stretch to take the set 25-22.
Hollins got out in front 3-1 in the fourth set but the WildCats' 5-1 run gave them a 5-3 lead. The two teams would exchange leads but at 13-11 in Hollins' favor, Randolph ripped off a 10-1 run to pull ahead 21-14. Hollins tried to reduce its deficit but the WildCats were too much in the end as they won 25-19 to take the match.
Finnerty led with 10 kills and hit .833 on the night. She added six digs and four block assists. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) finished with 31 assists and seven digs. Jamie Galinis (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley) had a season-high six block assists.
Randolph hosts Eastern Mennonite in its home finale on Saturday. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
