VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team played its final regular season match of the season on Wednesday evening at Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins defeated the WildCats 4-0.
More importantly for the WildCats, they have qualified for the ODAC Tournament for the first time in four years. Randolph clinched the sixth seed and will play at third seed Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.
The Marlins scored the game's first goal just over nine minutes into the first period. They would tally a second goal in the 35th minute. Randolph had five shots in the period but none on frame.
Virginia Wesleyan scored twice in the second half, once at 47:42 and at 72:37. The Marlins led in total shots 21-9 and in shots on goal 7-1.
Starting keeper Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) finished with two saves in 74:08. Tyler Blome (Moseley, Va./Cosby HS) and Jonas Bryson (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork HS) both saw time in goal and did not a record a save.
Next up for the WildCats is a quarterfinal matchup with the Tigers. The two teams last met on September 20 in Hampden-Sydney in a designated non-conference game. The Tigers won the game 2-1 with two second-half goals.
