HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA.- The Randolph men's soccer team faced off against Hampden-Sydney in the Quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Hellmuth-Gibson Field. The Tigers got out to a 3-1 lead in the game as they went on to defeat the WildCats by the score of 4-1.
Hampden-Sydney controlled the contest from the opening kickoff as it led 9-0 in total shots and were ahead 2-0 at halftime. It would be 3-0 Tigers in the 48th minute of the game.
Randolph's first shot on frame came in the 58th courtesy of Ian Sigmon (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd HS). At 60:43, Tigers goalkeeper Stig Larson was called for a foul that granted the WildCats a penalty kick. Marcus Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) converted the attempt, his team-leading seventh goal, to make the score 3-1.
Hampden-Sydney was granted a penalty kick of its own in the 83rd minute after a foul by Matthew Campbell (Lovingston, Va./Liberty Christian) in the penalty area but the shot attempt by Zakky Johnston was denied by Randolph keeper Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS). HSC would go on to score its fourth goal of the day at 82:53.
The Tigers led in total shots 20-6 and had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had three corner kicks each.
Dominic Cortes finished with five saves in the net. Larson had three saves.
Randolph ends its season with a final overall record of 5-10-4.
