LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Sweet Briar and Regent in a tri-match on Saturday at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats defeated the Vixens 3-0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-8) in the first match. Randolph then defeated Regent 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-14) in the final match of the day.
Caroline York (Kill Devil Hills, N.C./First Flight HS) led the WildCats with nine kills against Sweet Briar. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) totaled 29 assists and six digs, and three total blocks. Jaelle Hinkle (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield HS) and Mary Park (Manassas Park, Va./Seton School) both had six digs each.
Against Regent in the first set, the Royals started out to a 5-0 lead on the WildCats. Randolph countered with a 5-0 run of its own to tie the set at 5-5. The teams were neck and neck until the WildCats used a 7-1 run with the score at 12-11 to go ahead 19-12. The 'Cats would go on to close out the Royals in the end as they won 25-16.
In the second set, Regent got out to leads of 7-3 and 17-12. The Royals upped their advantage to as much as six points at 21-15. Randolph came all the way back with a 9-1 run to lead 24-22. Regent tallied two points on WildCat attack erroer to tie the set at 24-24 but a kill by Jamie Galinis (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley) and Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) gave Randolph the last two points it needed to win the frame 26-24.
In the third set, Regent led 6-3 but again Randolph came back to overtake the Royals and went ahead 8-7. The teams would exchange points back and forth until the 'Cats broke off an 11-1 run to go up 22-13. Regent could not respond to the Randolph barrage as the WildCats finished of the Royals 25-14 to win the set.
Finnerty led the WildCats with 11 kills and hit .476. Turner totaled 32 assists to go with a team-high 15 digs. Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) and Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) both tallied 12 digs each. Galinis finished with nine kills, five digs, and three block assists.
Prior to the start of the match, the team recognized seniors Woodson, Finnerty, Maldonado, Turner, and Galinis.
Randolph returns to ODAC play on Wednesday as the WildCats travel to Hollins. The match begins at 6:30 p.m.
