LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Randolph-Macon in their regular season home finale on Saturday evening at WildCat Stadium. Despite the Yellow Jackets outshooting the WildCats in the game, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Randolph's overall record now sits at 5-8-4 and 3-4-1 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets drop to 8-4-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the conference.
The WildCats currently sit in sixth place in the ODAC with one regular season contest remaining. Randolph-Macon is right behind in seventh place.
The team teams played evenly in the first half despite Randolph-Macon leading in shots 7-3. Randolph keeper Dominic Cortes (Warrenton, Va./Warrenton) was able to turn away a pair of Yellow Jackets shots on frame to keep R-MC off the scoreboard. The WildCats had three shots on goal that were stopped by the 'Jackets.
In the second half, the game was still scoreless less than four minutes in. A foul on Matthew Campbell (Lovingston, Va./Liberty Christian) in the penalty area, however, gave the Yellow Jackets a penalty kick opportunity. Wiley Eubank was able to beat Cortes to give Randolph-Macon the 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jacket lead did not last long. Less than a minute later the WildCats had a corner kick. Bryan Leiva-Membreno's (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) offering found Ian Sigmon (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd Hs) who headed the ball into the back of the net and in to tie the game at 1-1. Randolph had a near game-winner in the 83rd minute but Anelka Ngoy's (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) shot glanced off the crossbar and out of play.
Randolph-Macon led in shots 15-7. The teams were tied in shots on goal 4-4. Cortes finished with four saves in net.
The WildCats wrap up the regular season next Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
