GREENSBORO, N.C.- Wednesday night's game between Randolph and Guilford was delayed because of lightning. The team did eventually start play and it was the WildCats who came away victorious on the evening as they defeated the Quakers 1-0.
The WildCats improves to 2-2-4 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. GC drops to 3-4 and 0-1 in the ODAC.
The first half was indicative of recent WildCat games as the two teams were scoreless at the half. Randolph outshot Guilford 4-0 in the period with its only shot on goal coming in the 8th minute.
In the second half, the WildCats finally broke through. Randolph was granted a free kick and the ball found its way toward the net. Quaker goalkeeper Christopher Kelley tried to push back the shot but missed and the ball found its way to Gavin Leverette (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) who knocked it in for the score to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0.
The Randolph defense held the Quakers to just one shot on goal the entire game which came in the 68th minute. Overall, the WildCats dominated 7-1 in total shots on 3-1 in shots on goal. Randolph had a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-5.
Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) registered his fourth shutout of the season. He finished with one save.
Randolph returns home to host Eastern Mennonite on Saturday night. Game time from WildCat Stadium is at 7:00 p.m.
