LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College women's soccer got a 1-0 victory over Mary Baldwin in a hard-fought match.
Randolph took five shots with one shot on goal in the first half to the Fighting Squirrels two shots and two shots on goal. A back-and-forth rally and solid defenses from both sides ended the first half in a tie.
Much like the first half, both teams traded possession back and forth but nothing was breaking each team's defensive wall. As the minutes wound down, an opportunity presented itself for the WildCats. A corner from junior
Alana Ellis into the box led to a goal from graduate student
Carlynne Wright, low center, at the 87:44 minute mark to put the WildCats on top.
For the remaining three minutes, the WildCats played keep-away for the win.
The 'Cats head to Virginia Beach to face the Royals of Regent University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
