STAUNTON, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team played a non-conference game at Mary Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats trailed 2-1 but scored a late goal to come away with a 2-2 tie.
The Fighting Squirrels attacked early in the first half but it was the WildCats who struck first. Corey Williams (Lynchburg, Va./Appomattox County HS) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Rhajee Scarlett (Atlanta, Ga./Rosewell) to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. MBU would later even the match with a goal in the 33rd minute.
Mary Baldwin took the lead less than five minutes into the second period. Randolph kept its attack up as it registered two shots on goal. The third shot proved to be good as Trace Dockman (Waynesboro, Va./Scotland Chapel Academy) connected on a pass from Cooper Sayles (Hamilton, Va./Loudon Valley) at 82:29 to knot the contest at 2-2.
Mary Baldwin finished with a slight advantage in total shots 14-12 and both teams were even in shots on goal with six. Corner kicks were tied at five each.
Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) had four saves in goal as did his counterpart for the Fighting Squirrels Preston Bentley.
Randolph returns home to host McDaniel in the first ever meeting between the two schools on Saturday. Game time from WildCat Stadium will be at 5:00 p.m.
