LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Husson at a rainy WildCat Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats fell behind the Eagles and attempted to rally in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell by the score of 18-12.
Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) put Randolph on the board with his goal under the 14-minute mark of the first quarter. The Eagles scored three straight times to go up 3-1 with just over 10 minutes to play in the period. Nathan Pradachith's (Alexandria, Va./Edison) solo score with under seven minutes remaining in the quarter made it 3-2. Husson scored four straight times to pull ahead 7-2. The Eagles would go on to lead 8-3 at the end of the period.
Two Eagle goals to being the second quarter increased the visitor's lead to 10-3. Randolph closed it to 10-5 but the Eagles would go on to lead 11-5 at halftime.,
Husson began the third quarter with five straight goals to go up 16-5 with 6:20 remaining. The WildCats closed to within 10 goals, 17-7, going into the final quarter of play.
Trailing 18-8 with under 10 minutes left to play in the fourth quarter, Chase and Cooper Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) both scored to make it an 18-10 game. Penalties on the Eagles granted the WildCats an extra-man opportunity. Cooper Callan scored on the first and then Chase Callan assisted Tom Stahler (Johannesburg, South Africa/Middle Township) on a man-up goal to make it 18-12 with 3:40 remaining. The Randolph defense held Husson without a shot in the final 3:40 but the offense could not get another goal scoring opportunity in the end.
Husson led in total shots 46-40. Randolph held the groundball edge 32-30.
Pradachith scored a career-high four goals which topped his three-goal effort from Monday's game. He also assisted on two scores. Brightly scored three times and dished out three assists. Chase Callan scored twice and picked up an assist as did Cooper Callan. Stahler scored once and had a team-high 11 groundballs.
Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) had 14 saves in the cage and six groundballs.
Randolph travels to Greensboro on Saturday. Game time will be at 12:00 p.m.
