Women’s Volleyball Blanks Ferrum 3-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Ferrum in the penultimate regular season match on Tuesday evening at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats defeated the Panthers 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21).

The WildCats improve to 14-13 overall and 4-7 in the ODAC. Ferrum falls to 7-16 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

Randolph got out ahead in the first set 5-2. With the score at 10-8 in the WildCats' favor, Randolph went on a 5-0 run to lead 15-8. The WildCats led 17-10 but the Panthers used a 6-0 run to close to within one point, 17-16. The 'Cats ripped off four straight points to go ahead 21-16. Randolph held a 24-20 advantage but the Panthers scored three points to close to 24-23 but Jillian Warter (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) ended the set with a kill to give Randolph the set win.

In the second set, Ferrum got out to a 4-0 lead. The Panther lead was 13-6 while the WildCats threatened. FC led 15-11 but Randolph came back with a 7-0 run to grab the lead away and go up 18-15. The Panthers came back to tie the set at 21-21 but the WildCats went on a 4-0 run to claim the set and win 25-21.

Randolph took a 9-2 lead in the third set. The WildCats held a 22-15 lead but Ferrum was able to close to within three points at 23-20 but kills from Warter and Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) gave the 'Cats the set and match win.

Warter led the team in kills with 14 and hit .345 on the night. Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) put up 10 kills while hitting .350 and also put up five digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) led in assists with 24. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach Va./Kempsville) chipped in 11 assists. Tahani Villines (Whittset, N.C./Williams) led in digs with 16 and Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin-SOTA) finished with 11 digs.

The WildCats wrap up the regular season on Saturday as they host Bridgewater. Match time will be at 1:00 p.m.
