ASHLAND, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team made a midweek trip to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets had the upper hand on the WildCats as they won 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-18).
In the first set, Randolph trailed 11-10. The 'Jackets then went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 16-10. The WildCats closed the gap with a 6-2 run to make it 18-16. After RM-C pulled ahead 21-16, three straight points by Randolph put the score at 21-19. The Yellow Jackets closed out the WIldCats with a 4-0 run at the end to win 25-19.
Randolph-Macon led 13-7 in the second set but the 'Cats came back to close to within two points at 14-12. A 5-0 Yellow Jacket run put the home team ahead 19-12. Randolph got the score to 21-16 but another late 'Jacket push gave RM-C the 25-16 win.
The WildCats had some early success in the third frame as they held a 7-6 lead. A 13-4 run by the Yellow Jackets staked them out to a 19-11 advantage. Randolph would narrow the gap to six points but it was not enough in the end as Randolph-Macon came out with the 25-18 set win.
Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) led the team offensively with six kills and also registered two block assists. Tahani Villines (Whittset, N.C./Williams) had five kills, two block assists, and four digs. Izzy Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Peninsula Catholic) led in digs with 12 and assists with 10. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) chipped in nine digs and eight assists. Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) finished with five total blocks (four assisted and one solo) and three kills.
Randolph hosts Washington and Lee on Friday evening at Giles Gymnasium. Match time is at 6:30 p.m.
