SALEM, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team played its second match in as many days as it faced Roanoke on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats had defeated the Maroons back on September 1 but it was RC that claimed this match as it won by the score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17).
The WildCats scored the first three points of the first set to lead 3-0. The Randolph lead was at 16-12 before the Maroons rallied to knot the set at 16-16. The 'Cats inched ahead 17-16 on a kill by McKayla Padgett (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) but Roanoke used a 9-2 run to pull ahead of Randolph and win 25-19.
In the second set, Randolph had leads of 11-8 and 13-10, The Maroons began to chip away at the WildCat lead as their 8-2 run had them at an 18-15 advantage. The 'Cats got as close as 19-18 but Roanoke stayed out in front with a 6-2 run to claim the set 25-20.
The WildCats got out to a strong start in the third frame as they put up leads of 6-2 and 8-4. Randolph still led at 13-10 until a RC run of 10-2 put the home team ahead 20-15. The WildCats closed to 20-17 after kills by Tahani Villines (Whittset, N.C./Williams) and Padgett but the Maroons went on a 5-0 run to close out the set and win the match.
Villines led Randolph with 11 kills to go with six digs and two block assists. Padgett finished with six kills and five digs. Izzy Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Peninsula Catholic) had a team-high 11 assists. Gracie Fulton (Staunton, Va./Riverheads) tallied 10 digs.
The WildCats travel to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. Match time from Ashland will be at 7:00 p.m.
