Women’s Soccer Falls to Averett in ODAC Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team opened the ODAC portion of its schedule as it hosted Averett at a rainy and blustery WildCat Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars came out on top as they defeated the WildCats 3-1.

The first shot of the game came in the 25th minute by Averett's Celia de Diego. De Diego would then score in the 27th minute off an assist by Isobel Evans. Less than three minutes later, Taylor Batty's Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) clear in front of the goal went in the opposite direction and in for the own goal as AU led 2-0.

In the second half, Randolph came out on the attack as it registered four shots in eight minutes of game time.  Finally in the 58th minute, Sterlyn Woodward (Madison, Va./Madison County) sent a pass in to Joanne Torres (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) who booted it into the back of the net to get the WildCats on the board.

The Cougars added to their lead in the 69th minute as Erika Lindstrom fought through a scrum in front of the goal to score. The 'Cats were only able to put one shot on frame in the final 21 minutes of game time.

The teams were even in shots 10-10. Randolph did finish with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) had one save in goal for the WildCats. Tiffany Harget had five saves.

Randolph is home again on Wednesday as it hosts Eastern Mennonite. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
